A Weekend in Marrakech, Morocco: The Emily and Fin City Guide

A Weekend in Marrakech, Morocco: The Emily and Fin City Guide

Our Spring Summer collection, Le Soleil, was inspired by the vibrant beauty of Morocco.
In this post, we’ll share our perfect weekend in one of it’s most popular destinations, Marrakech.

Marrakech is such a feast for the senses - the narrow cobbled streets which open up into noisy, bustling souks, the views over dramatic landscapes which surround the city, the scent of warm spices in the evening air - not to mention the colours.

Where to stay
Historic and atmospheric, riads are traditional Moroccan houses with an interior courtyard or garden providing a peaceful oasis and they’re the ideal place to stay to experience this city.
There are plenty of to choose from in Marrakech depending on your budget, we love Riad Yasmine

What to see and do
There is so much to see and do in Marrakech, here are some of our highlights for a weekend trip.

Day 1

Beat the queues and arrive early at Jardin Majorelle. This stunning botanical garden covers two and a half acres and feels like stepping into a work of art with the azure blue cubist villa set amongst towering cacti and other exotic flora.

Be sure to check out Yves Saint Laurent's ‘Love Gallery’ inside the gardens

Head to the Yves Saint Laurent museum next door to the gardens to find out more about this iconic designer and his inspirations.
Stop for a delicious lunch in Café Le Studio inside the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. With a mixture of traditional Moroccan and inventive French dishes, this calm space is perfect for reflecting on everything you’ve taken in over the morning and getting ready your afternoon adventuring.

After lunch, head into the medina to Le Jardin Secret ; explore the exotic and islamic gardens and take in the striking architecture.

Spend the rest of the afternoon strolling through the medina checking out all the different souks. Be sure to stop in the spice market and have a mint tea in Café des Epices

If you time it just right you can end up in the main square at the Jama el-fna market in the heart of Marrakech for sunset.

There are many amazing places for dinner in Marrakech and many of the riads will prepare a private dinner for you. We love the Nomad - make sure you have a reservation as this one is popular.

Day 2

Escape the bustle of the city with a day out to the foothills of the stunning Atlas Mountains, hire a taxi for the day to get you around.

For unparalleled views, we recommend lunch at the fabulous Kasbah Bab Ourika where we shot our SS20 campaign.

From Kasbah Bab Ourika there are many options for treks, from an easy couple of hours to a 7 hour trek for more experienced explorers. Their website has lots of ideas like a camel trek or relaxing hamman treatments or you might simply want to spend some time strolling the grounds of the kasbah and enjoy the setting.

On your way back to Marrakech, squeeze in a stop at La Source de Tapis for the biggest selection of beautiful, locally made carpets. They will even organise sending a carpet or two home for you if you fall in love!

Head back to the city for dinner. For a real treat, check out the dining options at Mamounia or maybe just stop for an evening cocktail. A great excuse to get dressed up and do a spot of people watching.
